James is trained as an architect, builder, and craftsman with 30+ years in the A/E/C arena. His career spans creative/design pursuits, business development, operations, logistics, collaboration building, and community outreach. James’ architectural project experience consists of corporate, civic, hospitality, housing, education, and performing arts as a designer, project manager, or principal in charge. As the Business Development & Operations manager for studio951, a Division of Shive-Hattery, James’ charge as a seller-doer is twofold; ignite business development in new markets and expand existing ones while contributing to the operational and logistical refinement for the firm. For the past 25 years, James has held leadership positions on a local, state, and national level in the American Institute of Architects. He was recently elevated to the AIA College of Fellows. AIA Fellows are recognized with the AIA’s highest membership honor for their exceptional work and significant contributions to architecture, the profession, and society. AIA Fellows exemplify architectural excellence – only 3 percent of AIA Members have earned this distinction to be elevated to the College of Fellows. James is a passionate and well-respected national public speaker and coach in the Institute and the profession on leadership, soft skills, and varied practice topics.
